Thermal Wire and Cable's CST-450 is a brand new product introduced in 2008 engineered for applications where the cable is expected to perform in extreme high voltage, high temperature situations. This all new product was originally introduced for the Petrochemical industry as a solution for their ignition cable needs in high temperature areas. This cable has since been integrated into many other fields to solve their high voltage needs in demanding environments, such as in the Appliance industry where it has flourished as an excellent igniter wire for commercial cooking equipment.
The conductor material is flexible-stranded, oxygen-free, high conductivity pure copper with a 27% nickel coating. The insulating system that is applied to this high performance conductor is composed of high-dielectric strength materials, which is a primarily inorganic crystalline silicate laminated to a glass scrim with a modified heat resistant epoxy - forming an insulating tape that is wrapped contra-helically to maintain an insulating wall which is flexible and easy to terminate. This dielectric has superior heat resistance and will not melt or flow at temperatures up to 450°C.
The outer jacket consists of a high strength fiberglass braid that provides great resistance to most abrasive environments. The jacket is saturated with a Teflon® finish which promotes ease of installation when sliding through conduit and also reduces jacket fraying when the cable is cut and stripped. This cable can be augmented with a Braided 304 stainless steel jacket or CLX armor overall when the cable is likely to experience abnormal physical abuse.
Thermal Wire and Cable’s CST-450 can be cut and terminated on the jobsite and requires no special tools and connectors. The CST-450 is extremely flexible upon installation, but not designed for high-flexing applications after exposure to temperatures exceeding 300°C.
Outer Fiberglass braided jackets are available in various colors. The standard color is a Natural Tan. Thermal Wire and Cable will be offering this product in sizes #8 AWG – #24 AWG, please contact your Sales Representative for availability.
