Shake ‘n Bake for Circuit Integrity

October 5, 2016 by Thermal Wire and Cable

Thermal Wire Team Mark Gegenwarth

In some geographical areas, burning leaves in your backyard during the fall season may be allowed, but at Thermal Cable and Wire, we’re burning something else.

Watch our latest video that literally shakes and bakes our Thermaflame 3000 proving its high-powered circuit integrity.

The Thermaflame 3000 wire demonstrates fire resistance as it undergoes extreme testing for at least 60 minutes. Simulating a moving aircraft, the burning wire vibrates approximately .06 inches(1.52mm) 30 times per second.

Industries such as aeronautics and petroleum are two of a wide range of industries that prepare for unexpected hazardous events where wire and cable are required to perform in temperatures from -320°F through 1000°F continuously or during short term exposure to 2800°F.

How It Works

The wire is created with oxygen-free nickel-coated copper. The insulation that protects the wire cannot flake or melt during exposure to flame. If this were to occur, it would allow the heat or flame to penetrate and break down the cable. This breakdown would result in potentially losing the ability to conduct electricity as required.

TWC’s insulation is composed of inorganic material that withstands temperatures up to 3000°F. Passing all standardized tests, Thermaflame 3000 also maintains mechanical strength, provides impact resistance, and resists radiation, moisture and chemical conduction. Available constructions: 450C 25KVDC, in shielded pairs, triads or with an overall shield, or with thermocouple alloys. Single-conductor Thermaflame 3000 is also available to 1000 MCM.

Thermaflame 3000 is also used in emergency fire prevention equipment, blast furnace instrumentation, curing systems, glass fabrication, plastics manufacturing, industrial overhead cranes and offshore oilrigs.

By simultaneously combining the effects of increased temperature conditions and vibration patterns, engineers are able to evaluate wire and cable fatigue more efficiently.

Thermal Wire and Cable can prescribe the exact wire and cable for your application. Its engineers and sales representatives collaborate to meet clients’ needs within a short period of time.
